A bull for everyone at ‘glorious’ Turihaua sale
by Murray Robertson
Turihaua Angus produced an average similar to last year yesterday when it sold 63 out of 67 rising two-year-old bulls put up for sale.
As usual the on-farm auction drew a packed house to the stud’s rostrum.
Five bulls drew the top price of $16,000.
The sale average was $9285 and 26 sold for five figures.
The price range for the rest ranged from $4500 to $9500.
“The average is about the same as last year and we’re thrilled with that,” studmaster Paul Williams said.
“What a glorious day for a bull sale and we appreciated the great loyalty shown to us by our regular clients. Everyone got an option. No one missed out on a bull.
“It was a solid commercial line-up and they sold accordingly.”
Auctioneer Neville Clark said everyone who took part in the auction had an opportunity to buy a bull at their money.
“The bulls represented very good buying, given the iconic history of the Turihaua stud.
“It was a successful sale,” Mr Clark said.
It was the first time Paul and Sarah Williams presented the line-up as owners of the stud.
“To mark the occasion, they presented Hamish and Angela Williams (Paul’s parents and former owners of Turihaua) with flowers and an Angus-hide rug.

Spring Sale September 2021

excerpt from the Gisborne Herald

TURIHAUA Angus had a near sellout result in their annual Spring Sale yesterday with most of the yearling bulls sold and all of the two-year-olds.

The sale was conducted in the stud's on-farm rostrum, with a smaller bench of would-be buyers and supporters than usual because of the Covid-19 Level 2 restrictions.

The stud sold 21 of 24 yearling bulls for a top price of $6200, two selling at that price, and a sale average for the yearlings of $4047.

All nine of the two-year-olds put up sold, for a top price of $6000, and an average of $5278.

“It was a good sale that wasn't over the top but the good bulls made the money,” said auctioneer Neville Clark.

“People responded to the attributes of the cattle put up. They were well grown and well presented.”

Mr Clark said the sale result said the cattle industry “is looking pretty bloody good.”

Turihaua studmaster Paul Williams said they were thrilled to get the bulls away.

“Everyone had an opportunity to buy one today and there were good heifer mating options right through the catalogue.

“The bulls showed the disposition we are looking to breed.

“Our thanks to our regular clients who supported us again and using Bidr worked well for us too, with six of the bulls sold on-line.”
